Baseball Tours

I'm a big baseball fan, especially the Dodgers.  I'm a SoCal gal, so that makes sense.  In September I went on two baseball tours.  My tour company is Jay Buckley Baseball Tours.  There are a lot of baseball tour companies, before traveling with them, I did my research and have been happy with every trip, 8 so far.  Along the way, I've made some great friends, and I see some of them on each tour.

These tours are a unique way to see America.  They are about baseball but also the cities we visit.  Here are some photos from Trips #24 and #26.

Trip 24 ~ Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Kansas City, St Louis, then back to Chicago.  It was like driving a very big rectangle.

When we were ready to leave St. Louis, we found out that MLB had changed the start time of the Cubs game in Chicago from afternoon to night time.  With the extra time, we made a stop in Springfield, IL, and visited Lincolns Tomb.  It was a wonderful surprise.

Trip 26 was the annual Ultimate Game Day Weekend, this time in Seattle.  This is my 4th Ultimate game day weekend and I'm sure it won't be my last.  This is a baseball and football weekend.

The Ultimate Game Day Weekend

This is the 3rd Ultimate Game Day Weekend I've done with Jay Buckley Baseball Tours.  I've also gone on 4 of their just Baseball Tours.  They're a great company.

This tour started in Chicago, then we bussed to Green Bay for a Packers game.  This was the Thursday Night Football game that had the lightning storm and we had to evacuate the stadium.

Next, we went back to Chicago for a Cubs game.  It's always great to be at Wrigley Field.

Then on to Minneapolis, where we saw a Twins game and a Vikings game.  The people in the above photos are fellow travelers who I've gone on other tours with.  Amazing!

See those stripey overalls?  They were for sale at both the Packers and the Vikings team stores.  I saw lots of people wearing them, too.

After this tour, I flew home to LAX but didn't go home to Murrieta.  I spent the night at the Hampton Inn and left the next day for a tour of Spain!  That will be my next post.

Travel

On Thursday, "I'm leaving on a Jet Plane"!  (I love those lyrics.)  I'm going on a trip called the Ultimate Game Day Weekend.  I did this trip last year with my cousin Carol.  She had a health scare this year and couldn't go.  The company I travel with, Jay Buckley Baseball Tours, is a great company.  They are well organized and family orientated; it makes it easy for me to travel alone.

This is what's included on the trip:

On Friday, we will journey down to Washington, DC to watch the World Series contenders Washington Nationals, led by reigning MVP Bryce Harper, take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

On Saturday, we travel to Annapolis, MD to witness one of the greatest traditions in college sports…our Naval Academy playing the University of Connecticut in football. We will enjoy a pregame tailgate and have a great location to watch the pregame traditions.

On Sunday, we will enjoy an afternoon game at the famous Yankee Stadium between the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees. Afterwards, we will enjoy the sights and sounds of Times Square.

On the last day of our trip, we will spend time at Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park area and enjoy the many dining options of Reading Terminal Market. That night we will attend the first Monday Night Football Game of the 2016 NFL season featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field in Landover, MD.

Included features: Included in this tour is deluxe motorcoach transportation, hotel room for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights, tickets to all four games, breakfast every morning, tailgate food and beverages at the Navy game.

I'm flying into Baltimore from San Diego.  It's the first time I've flown out of SD,  I'll be sure to post lots of photos on  Instagram and Facebook, and do a post on the blog when I get home.  This time, instead of boarding the dogs, a family friend is staying at my house, with them.  He'll feed and walk them, and spend the night.

Just gettin' along

It's been over a month since I've checked-in.  Things are going pretty good.  Every day, I miss Bob like mad.  It's been remarked that I seem happy.  I am happy, and I firmly believe that Bob would be pretty upset if I changed and let depression move into my life.

My dogs are one of the reasons I keep going.  They miss Bob, too, but they still need to be feed, to go on walks and to be cared for.  I always feel sorry for people who don't have a pet in their home.  Dog, cat, bird, rabbit, hamster, or even a fish or two.

At the end of September, my cousin Carol and I went on The Ultimate Game Day Weekend tour with the Jay Buckley Baseball Tour Company.  Bob, I, Sharon and Oden have traveled with them previously.  They are a fabulous company and Carol and I had a great time.  We flew into Dallas on Thursday, and stayed there the first night, then we were bussed to Houston to see an Astros game, Astros vs. Rangers.  Their stadium, Minutemaid Park, was great.  The next day, we went to Austin for the UT Austin vs. OSU football game.  It was our first college football game.  It was hot, Texas hot, we had excellent seats, but opted to retreat to the concourse and watch the game on large TV's with all the other sane fans.

On Sunday, we went back to Dallas and attended the Dallas Cowboy football game at AT&T Park.  It was the Atlanta Falcons vs. the Cowboys and it was our first NFL game.  Monday we visited The Sixth Floor Museum, the site of President Kennedy’s assassination, in downtown Dallas, then we went back to AT&T Stadium for a tour of the stadium.  Let me just say that the Jones family did a spectacular job with the design.  What a fabulous football stadium!    That evening we saw the Detroit Tigers play the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park.  It was another fabulous day.  The only downside was that every home team we saw, lost their game!  Matt, our leader, said we must have been a jinx.

Frisco and I are Dog Obedience Training drop-outs.  Yes, it's true!  We went last Saturday to the first class, held in one of the local parks.  There was only one other doggy pupil, with a very nice Dad and Mom.  We were all there early and used the time to get to know each other.  The instructor was late, so late that I was on my way to my car to leave when she finally showed up.  We did stay for the class, but I was disappointed in her technique, poor communication skills, and the lateness was the cherry on the top.  I mulled it over and decided not to go back.  I was contemplating writing a letter to the Parks and Rec. Dept. but one of my Tai Chi students is one of five Parks Commissioners, and she said she'd make sure it was discussed at their meeting.

I've also been busy making a commissioned quilt.  Today I got the top finished and now I'll work on the quilt back.

Talking football

Are you a football fan? Who do you follow?

At our house we keep track of our old HS, Long Beach Poly - Home of Scholars and Champions. We also route for our local HS's, here in Murrieta

For college football it's USC, all the way. Love Joe McKnight.

BUT, since the Rams left LA, and I hope they don't come back, we don't really don't have a pro-football team we love. Each year we choose one or two to cheer for. Until Joe Montana retired our team was the Kansas City Chiefs. This year it's the Jets, because of Mark Sanchez; and the Vikings, because of Brett Farve.
