I'm sensitive, and a Giveaway

Some are born with sensitive skin, and some develop it.  I developed sensitive skin about 7 or 8 years ago.  I always used good quality products, after all I retired from Crabtree and Evelyn, so I really couldn't figure it out.  But the upshot was I had to use Dove bar soap on my body, and only Dove from then on.

One of the blogs I follow is Eden Hills's Blog | My Life on the Farm; Teresa has goats, she's an entertaining writer and her photos are fab.  She also makes soap, Goats Milk Soap.

Goat Herd in pasture

I got to thinking that maybe I'd order some Goats Milk Soap, and see how it works for me.  I placed an order right after we returned from our 50th Anniversary trip.  The service was super fast and I started using the Coconut variety, and it's working like a charm.

I contacted Teresa and asked her if she'd giveaway a bar of her soap to one of my readers, and she said, sure thing.  If' you'd like to win one bar of Goats Milk Soap, you can have 4 chances.  Leave up to 4 comments on this blog post.
  1. Visit the Eden Hills Market, and come back here and tell me which variety of soap you'd like to win.
  2. Like Eden Hills on FB, leave a comment on this post telling me that you did.
  3. Like my FB page, Janice Elaine Sews, and come back and tell me that you did.
  4. Leave a comment telling my how you follow this blog, (GFC, Feedly, Bloglovin, email etc.)
Good luck, with winner will be chosen on 8/1 by my favorite Random Number Generator, Bob.

It's about time

I haven't had a moment to spare, lately.  That's probably not true, but that's how I've felt.  If you're a FB friend, you already know that we lost an entire weekend going back and forth to the ER, because Bob had the tiniest injury on his knee, about a 1/16 of an inch, and it wouldn't stop bleeding.  Dripping on the floor bleeding.

What else?  Just normal stuff; Water Aerobics has been kicking my behind 2 or 3 days a week.  I haven't lost any weight, but I've dropped a dress size!  Teaching Tai Chi/QiGong 2 days each week.  Leading Tai Chi Ball for the Parkinson's Support Group.  Going to doctors in San Diego, that takes the whole day.  Reading - the last three books were hard to put down.  I recommend you read them soon.

If You Were Here by Alafair Burke
Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin
Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison

I donate my finished books, usually to Murrieta Friends of the Library.  This week I donated the hardbacks from my "read" pile to them, and drove the trade paper copies to West Long Beach Neighborhood Book Swap, it's a cart in the neighborhood I grew up in.  The "old"  neighborhood has changed but, sad to say, I don't think it's improved.

Sewing, I'm making a quilt for one of my grandsons; the one who never ask for anything.  My sewing gets interrupted by life and games.  We live in a small house and I use the dining room as my cutting/design room.  My sewing machine and fabric are in the "office".  We don't really entertain, but we belong to two groups, one plays cards and one plays dominoes.  The groups rotate to each others homes for an evening of fun.  When it's our turn to host, I need to pack all the sewing paraphernalia and clean all the "fabric dust", (it's like faerie dust, but cotton), and get the house back to normal, whatever that is.

Since blogging isn't a business with me, it frequently takes a backseat to life.  I had a few comments in response to my giveaway of the small clutch I'd won.  The winner is Melissa, she doesn't blog anymore, but when she was a young adult, her blog was Mel Growing Up.  I've already emailed her.

Mystery solved, and a give away!

You may remember the "mystery" I posted about on Friday.  At Dana's and Carrie's suggestions, I contacted the vendor who sent it to me.  She was an etsy seller that I've never purchased from.  It took three days for her to get back to me, this is what she said:

"Hi Janice!

You actually won those items from the sew mama sew holiday giveaway last year. My little one came early and my whole world turned upside down when he joined us. Better late than never? Got it to you in time for Christmas in July."

I'm not going to reveal who the etsy seller is because while I think 8 months past due is a bit much, I don't want to be more negative.

So, on to the give away.  I won this great clutch, but I know I won't use it.  Rather than let it sit around and collect dust, I thought I'd pass it on to someone who'll use it.  If you'd like to possess this cute clutch, leave me a comment on this post.  Any comment will do, if you're stuck, tell me about your pet(s) or your favorite color.  I'll draw the winner on the 25th, you know Christmas in July!

Blogiversary

Thumbs up to this. - Click image to find more Quotes Pinterest pins

I started blogging 5 years ago, today,  December 1, 2007.  Blogging has been an amazing journey for me.

direction arrows

I got the "bug" when Carrie, moved to the other side of the country.  She traded the Left Coast for the Right Coast; she started blogging, and I followed suit.  It's a good way to keep in touch.

When I joined the meme Fun Monday the following January, my blogging world exploded.  This is the photo I posted my first Fun Monday.  The assignment was to show the view out your front door.

This is the same view, now:

Not much difference!

I've decided not to bore you by recounting what's happened blog-wise, in the past five years.  I'm afraid you'd fall asleep, and I don't want that.  What I want to do is give  a box of Sees Candy to two different followers.  It'll be a half pound box of assorted chocolates like this:

Assorted Chocolates Silver Box

Here are the rules to win one of the boxes of candy.
  • Be a follower of this blog.
  • Be a blogger with an active blog.
  • Leave one comment telling me anything; maybe what your vacation plans are next year or if you have any special Christmas plans.  Be honest, if you're not a follower, or not a blogger, please don't leave a comment.
That's it, be a follower, be a blogger, leave a comment.  I'll draw the winner on 1/8.

.

I love these Christmas dogs.

P.S.  I'm discontinuing the meme First of the Month.

I'm participating in Sew, Momma, Sew!'s Give Away Day.  In fact, I'm participating twice, at this blog and over at my quilting blog, here.  Here at Prytz Family, I'm giving away a patchwork toy dog.  This toy dog has no buttons, so it's suitable for all ages.

No jumping thru hoops to be a winner.  I'm keeping it simple.

  • Leave me a comment about your weather, today.
  • I'll use a random number generator to choose the winner.
  • I will be happy to ship internationally.
  • Comments will close December 16 at 5 p.m. PST.
P.S.  I've been blogging for four years, to celebrate, I'm giving away candy, here.

Blogiversary Number Four

I've been blogging for Four Years!  I just a plain blogger, not fancy, except for my blog design, it's fancy.  I started blogging after Carrie moved to the other coast, the Right Coast.  She started a blog, and I thought it was a really great way to stay in touch.  It was that, and so much more.

I've "met" some wonderful people blogging, even met some of them IRL.  I have blog friends all over the country and a couple in other countries.  I've even been sad when one of them stops blogging, it's like loosing contact with a cousin.

I have many interest; so I have many blogs; a quick glance at the "nav bar" at the top, proves my point.

I just checked my dashboard and here are the current stats:

82,826 page-views
2956 post
250 followers

Yes, I actually average 2 post a day.  Some times, I post a lot, some times I hardly post at all; but mostly I just post what and when I want.

I thought I'd do a give away to celebrate Four Years.  It's a one pound box of See's Candy

If you'd like to win, leave me a comment about your favorite winter meal.  If you happen to have a favorite vegetarian recipe, I'd appreciated it, because of Bob's new diet.  If you're a follower, leave me a separate comment, for another entry.  This is open to international readers, too.

I'll use a Random Number Generator, to choose a winner on 12/15.

Comments are now closed.

Monday Book Give Away, #52

I'm giving away a well read ARC, of my favorite book from last year.  I've passed this around to many friends and my Tai Chi class.  Most of the members of my Tai Chi Class are readers, yeah for smart active seniors.  Inspite of the many times this copy has been read, it's in very good shape.

Publishers Weekly

Starred Review.
American readers will have their imaginations challenged by 14-year-old Kamkwamba's description of life in Malawi, a famine-stricken, land-locked nation in southern Africa: math is taught in school with the aid of bottle tops ("three Coca-Cola plus ten Carlsberg equal thirteen"), people are slaughtered by enemy warriors "disguised... as green grass" and a ferocious black rhino; and everyday trading is "replaced by the business of survival" after famine hits the country. After starving for five months on his family's small farm, the corn harvest slowly brings Kamkwamba back to life. Witnessing his family's struggle, Kamkwamba's supercharged curiosity leads him to pursue the improbable dream of using "electric wind"(they have no word for windmills) to harness energy for the farm. Kamkwamba's efforts were of course derided; salvaging a motley collection of materials, from his father's broken bike to his mother's clothes line, he was often greeted to the tune of "Ah, look, the madman has come with his garbage." This exquisite tale strips life down to its barest essentials, and once there finds reason for hopes and dreams, and is especially resonant for Americans given the economy and increasingly heated debates over health care and energy policy.

I've been giving away books on Monday mornings for over 13 months.  I've skipped a week, here and there, so this is my 52nd book give away.  Today, I went back and counted the total books I've given away; 72 books, and my bookshelves are still bulging!

If you're interesting in winning The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, leave a comment.  A couple of notes, you are allowed to win more than once, and be sure I have a way of contacting you; this is especially important if you're a no comment blogger.  The winner of The Mullah's Storm is Jan.

Monday Book Give Away, #51

This is a debut novel that both Bob and I enjoyed. We both liked the non-stop adventure and great writing. Bob been through the Navy's Survival School and thought those aspects of the story were very realistic.

From Publishers Weekly:

At the start of Young's well-crafted first novel, a transport plane carrying a high-value prisoner, a radical mullah, is forced down in the rugged Hindu Kush of Afghanistan. Maj. Michael Parson, the plane's co-pilot, and female Master Sergeant Gold, an interpreter who speaks Pashto, must brave a ferocious winter storm and reach a nearby Special Forces team with the mullah, but they wind up in the hands of Taliban insurgents. The SF team rescues Parson, but the Taliban escape, taking the mullah and the translator in opposite directions. The team must try to recapture the mullah, but Parson can't abandon Gold because"You love your comrades more than you hate your enemies."Young (The Speed of Heat: An Airlift Wing at War in Iraq and Afghanistan) draws on his own war experiences for verisimilitude, which, along with believable characters and an exciting plot, makes this one of the better thrillers to come out of the Afghan theater.

The copy I'm giving away is an ARC, if you're interested leave a comment on this post; just for fun, tell be your favorite thing about autumn.  Be sure I have a way of contacting you.  The winner of give away #49, How to Read The Air by Dinaw Mengestu, is T+E; I've sent him/her an email.
