Home Sweet Home

I've been home from NYC for a week.  I jumped right back into my "normal" life.  I started working on a scrappy quilt, then my books came that I picked up at the BEA; only two boxes this year.

I have a cottage/small home, so I had to pick up the quilt blocks to have the space to unpack the books.  As I unpacked, I sorted.

If you're a book person, I'm sure you spotted two that are not "new".  I always find it odd when publishers are touting an author's new book, but decide to give out an old one.

Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers.  The plants on my patio are just starting to bloom, so I thought I'd show them off.

52 List :: Favorite Flowers

I love flowers and fragrance.  On the other hand, I have tons of allergies, so generally speaking all my flowers and their fragrances, stay outside.  My yard smells great!  (list title should say Favorite Flowers!  I'm not re-writing or re-shooting.)

Wordless Wednesday

Hollyhocks

I'm so excited,

the hollyhocks in my side yard

are blooming!

Last year we took all the hollyhock plants out; it had become too hard to maintain the area.  It was wild and overgrown with grass.  My hollyhocks were volunteers, three colors seeds brought in by the birds or wind.  I was really happy when the plants started sprouting this Spring, but I thought I'd have to wait until next year to have some blooms.  This is a wonderful surprise.

Roses

I walked around the backyard this morning taking photos of the roses since it's almost time to trim the roses down, for the winter.  These are all up-shots, most of the rose bushes are towering from 10 to 16 feet. These were taken within minutes, it's fascinating to see the different colors of the sky.  Since this is Sunday, these are all Straight Out Of  the Camera, too.

Happy Fourth of July

This is a Fourth of July rose, in my backyard. Have a wonderful and safe day.

Mystery

I took two pots home to Murrieta, after my Mom moved to Oregon.

There was nothing growing in them.

I put them on my front porch, and let nature take it's course.

We had lots of rain this winter.

Eventually, plants started growing, and now these lovely flowers are blooming.

But, I have no idea what they are. Any idea?

This is how I water these, easy drip irrigation.

I use the same method on most of my house plants.

My favorite

This is my favorite rose, in my garden, Graham Thomas. I like it so much, I planted a second one. The top photo shows all the blooms on just one stem, and the stems are about 4 feet long!

Below are marcos of the three opened blooms on this stem. I love the variety of colors the roses go through.

Bits of my life.

When I teach Tai Chi, I volunteer my time, so there's no fee involved. Occasionally one of my students will bring me a little something.

Yesterday I was given these savory pastries. Espie, a retired chemist, said to have them with a cup of tea. Don't they look wonderful.

We had a heavy fog this morning. When it lifted, a bit, I took these of the geranium on my patio. I love the double flowers and the red and green leaves of this plant.
